Tears in my Beer

As beer drinkers know, there has been an explosion of "micro-breweries" across the country, touting the fact that they are made right here in (wherever you live, or drink beer)
So, being a sucker for expanding my beer knowledge I spied a new brand in my grocers cooler - "Pamlico", a small river here in eastern North Carolina. The package proclaimed "locally brewed beer" and extolled the beauty and comforts of NC. Only when I got home and pulled out the first bottle did I do my complete review of the label. There in small print was written the expose "brewed in Delaware" "Hi neighbor!" I guess anywhere you can reach by land or sea in less than a day is "local"
I don't know which is more of an insult to our intelligence, calling this "locally brewed" or all the Japanese brands, Fosters, and now even Guiness, brewed in Canada so they can truthfully be called "imported" when they make that great leap south into the USA.
Oh well, in heaven there is no beer - that's why I drink it here.

So glad to see you back blogging again. Perhaps my blog stimulated you.

As for "local," when you live in Texas I think Mexico is considered close enough to qualify.

I've led a sheltered life, I guess, because I only became familiar with the "In Heaven There is No Beer" polka very recently. I think it was on "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me," my favorite NPR radio program. I particularly like the verse that says: In heaven there is no drink, At least that's what we think, So when we go ca-plink, All our friends will be drinking all our drink. Going ca-plink has now become my new favorite euphemism for dying. Seems somehow less final.
